The estate’s land has changed little over the course of the centuries. 100 hectares are covered in vine, the rest divided between forested land and other agricultural uses. Our vineyards are located in the three most important DOCs of Friuli: Isonzo, Collio and Colli Orientali del Friuli. Part of a patchwork of farmlands, vineyards and forested land, the Villa Locatelli Estate surrounds the winery’s soul- the Villa Locatelli. 80 hectares of vineyards take root in loose and gravely soils of the area which is known to be one of the drier and somewhat warmer regions of Friuli’s winegrowing region. The Podere Rocca is located in the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC. Wines from the Colli Orientali del Friuli tend to be rich and complex. While alcohol is often higher than other areas, it is balanced and the wines don’t finish warm but rather with a long, clean, mineral note. Given that the hills of the Colli Orientali tend to be broader and south facing, Friuli’s red wines reach their excellence here. he wines from the Collio DOC mimic the specialness of this great land that is nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Julian Alps. Given its vicinity to both the sea and the mountains, it is a unique microclimate due to its ventilation and temperature escursion and the “ponca soils”. The varietals for white wines are the same as in the COF and maintain the same richness, structure and minerality.
